On Friday June 20, 2014, I spoke in support of the Scrap and Precious Metal Dealers Bill 2013. This legislation would ensure that anyone dealing in precious ans scrap metals keeps meticulous records, ensure that items bought from a vendor without a place of business must be kept for 30 days, and give Gardai powers to inspect premises. All very sensible measures, and ones that have been enacted in the UK to crack down on black market dealing. Unfortunately, the Government has indicated that it will not support this bill.
