Prebudget Submission 2014

The main aim of my prebudget submission is to prove that it is possible to reach the Troika target, but at the same time protect the coping classes support SMEs and invest in education. Click here to read the full submission.

The Good news? According to the recent economic data released by the ESRI no budgetary adjustment is needed to reach the Troika target. The ESRI figures include more up to date data on the payment of the national debt and; as a result the budgetary outlook greatly improves.

Some of the measures for families include:

  • Reducing Local Property Tax for those in negative equity
  • Introducing a Childcare tax credit
  • Extend ECCE Scheme to two years

Educational measures include:

  • Increasing the number of primary school teachers by 10%
  • Increasing Grants to Third Level Institutions by 20%

Measures to help businesses include:

  • Keeping tourism VAT at 9% for one more year
  • Upgrading the Competition Authority
