Minister Howlin and I have discussed waste and lack of efficiency in the public sector before. The Minister claimed that it was a “con job” to consider saving money in the public sector through eliminating waste. Discussing the Government’s revised estimates for public sector spending was a chance for round two. I wanted to try to get through to the Minister that there is waste in the public service, even though it may not be obvious to him.
