Funding secured for Kilcoole Footpath

I am delighted to have secured funding from the National Transport Authority for improvements to the foot-route into Kilcoole from Farrankelly and Eden Gate.

I have had numerous requests from residents in Kilcoole, Farrankelly and Edengate wondering if anything can be done about the path into Kilcoole. I’m well-aware of the issues of speeding cars, blind spots and the danger to pedestrians and cyclists; despite the development in the area, the situation is as bad as it was in the 90s when I lived on that road.

Since 2013 I have been trying to get funding to have works done to ensure the safety of non-motorists on the road. However, due to ongoing budgetary cuts enforced by the Government, Wicklow County Council did not have the necessary funds. Thankfully on the back of a concerted effort by me for over a year, the National Transport Authority has agreed to provide the County Council with the required funding. Wicklow County Council is now going through the design phase, and the plans should be announced shortly.

Councilor Jennifer Whitmore and I will continue to work to improve facilities in and around the Kilcoole area. If there are issues that Kilcoole residents would like to discuss, I look forward to haering from them.
