Stephen Donnelly, Social Democrats TD for Wicklow and East Carlow has welcomed the major boost to Wicklow’s film industry in Budget 2016. It was announced earlier this month that the film tax credit will rise from €50m to €70m to encourage the development of a greater number of high budget series in Ireland.
Speaking in Ashford today, Deputy Donnelly stated:
“The increase in the film tax credit represents a real opportunity to Wicklow’s film industry. We have two major studios in Wicklow, Ashford Studios and Ardmore Studios. While we have already seen a number of high quality productions like Vikings and Penny Dreadful come to Wicklow but the increased tax credit will allow even higher budget productions and ensure that those already here are encouraged to stay.
‘The film and television industry in Ireland could provide upwards of 5000 extra jobs over the next five years. I will continue to working with both Wicklow County Council and local studios to maximise the growth of the industry in the county.
