The United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union is bad for the UK, bad for Ireland and bad for the EU. It is a symptom of the growing disconnect between politics and the citizens politics is meant to serve-a symptom of the growing sense of the have’s and the have-not’s- a symptom of some of the failures of globalisation, including a world in which 65 people now own over half of all wealth on the planet.

We must act quickly and decisively to protect Ireland’s interests and to support our neighbours in the UK; We must also reflect on the result, and seek to understand the lessons to be learned – for Ireland and for the EU.
