It seems to take time to get things done in the public / political sectors in Ireland, but when they come about, it’s wonderful. About 18 months ago I started working on an urban renewal idea for Bray – the area around the Dart Station. It’s dirty, it’s unwelcoming and it makes people feel unsafe at night. So we got a great group together, including Tidy Towns (heroes…doing almost all the work), the taxi drivers, Iarnrod Eireann, Dublin Bus, Wicklow County Council, local businesses, local voluntary groups and NAMA. AND – it’s starting to happen – Iarnrod Eireann are doing lots of different bits (and giving us access to areas to do ourselves), Wicklow County Council is planning some positive walking / cycling changes, and last week we started painting the walls facing the station.
There’s lots more planned, so if you’d like to get involved, just shout – and keep an eye out as things get better.
